Financial Policy
Our goal is to make psychotherapy helpful and affordable, basing the frequency and duration of your therapy sessions on what you and I decide is most effective for you.
Insurance and HMOs
Psychotherapy may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance company. My services for mental health issues are usually covered by major insurance carriers, including The Alliance and Medicare (if Medicare is combined with a secondary policy). Members of HMOs in Madison have sometimes been covered, even though I am not on an HMO panel. If you are in an HMO, it is a good idea to check to see if you have “out-of-network” benefits, or if your primary care provider can give you a referral to me for psychotherapy. Please check your mental health coverage by calling the customer service number on your insurance card and asking:
- Do I have benefits for out-patient psychotherapy? If so, is there a co-pay? How much is it?
- Is there a deductible? How much is it? When does it start, and have I met it yet?
- Is there a specific number of a visit covered or an allowed dollar amount for mental health issues?
- Is an out-of-network psychologist covered?
- Is a prior authorization for psychotherapy required?
Rates
Individual Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy, and Couples Therapy: 50 minutes, $145
I charge a pro-rated fee for sessions shorter or longer than 50 minutes, for phone calls over 15 minutes, and for consultations with other professionals, such as physicians.
Payment
Self-payments and co-payments may be made with a credit card, check, or cash. These payments are appreciated at the time of service. As a courtesy to you, our billing manager, Renee, sends statements to your insurance company bi-weekly and personal bills to you monthly.
