Domestic Violence

Domestic violence, also known as domestic abuse, spousal abuse, child abuse or intimate partner violence, can be broadly defined as a pattern of abusive behaviors by one or both partners in an intimate relationship such as marriage, dating, family, friends or cohabitation.

Domestic violence has many forms including physical aggression (hitting, kicking, biting, shoving, restraining, slapping, throwing objects), or threats that include sexual abuse, emotional abuse, controlling or domineering, intimidation, stalking, passive-aggressive abuse, and economic deprivation (withholding money or support).

Domestic violence may or may not constitute a crime, depending on local statutes, severity and duration of specific acts, and other variables. Alcohol consumption and substance use together with a mental illness can be co-occurring with domestic violence and present additional challenges when present alongside patterns of verbal, emotional, and/or psychological abuse.

CCS understands being a victim of domestic violence can often be embarrassing, which often leads to shame, which often leads to denial-- which, if unaddressed, can often lead to fatal injuries.  However, you should not be embarrassed about being a victim.

In fact, you should not be embarrased about being a perpetrator of Domestic Violence.  We are here to help, not judge.  We are here to help build up, not tear down.

We are here to help provide not only healing so  you can lead a healthy, functional life, but we are also here to provide the tools and resources to (if the victim) know how to avoid these types of relationships in the future and take proper care of yourself-- If the perpetrator, we are here to provide the tools and resources necessary to help make good choices and address such destructive (to self and ones you love) behaviors.
